A student approached Billy-Bob Gautama and said, “Goat, did you ever think about getting married?”  “Thought about it,” said Billy-Bob.  “Well,” said the student, “how come you didn’t do it?”  “It’s like this,” said Billy-Bob.  “The first woman I thought about marrying was pretty as a prairie sunset, but turned out she was meaner than a snake.  Next woman I thought about was kind and gentle, but we never had anything to talk about.  Next woman was someone I could talk to all day, but she had no sense of humor.  Then, in Bastrop, I met a woman who was funny, smart, pretty, good to talk to, and sweet as the summer is hot.  Yessir, she was the perfect woman.”  “So,” said the student.  “Why didn’t you marry her?”  “Well,” said Billy-Bob, “turned out she was looking for the perfect man.”

WTF?

As some of you know,  the RSS feed isn’t working here.  Now a new problem has developed: as of sometime yesterday, I can’t post comments.   In order to even read the comments, I have to navigate to the administration page; somewhat like getting the output from a program by doing a core dump.  I have email and phone messages in with DDB hoping to fix this.  Meanwhile, pleases keep the discussions going, and I’ll jump in when I can.

Later: Fixed.  It was a problem local to my Firefox.  If there was any connection between it and the RSF feed problem, it is too arcane for me to figure out.

All right, this is getting to be too much.  I ignored it when a friend warned me not to “defend rapists” on her LJ for linking to an article  (See sidebar for the link.)  Now another friend has signed a petition calling for this 76-year old man to “receive justice.”  The cynicism is appalling.

There many issues and sides to this, but three of them come to mind: One, the power of the media to sway even smart people.  Two, as an example of PC thought: if you say rape, or child molestation, or racism, or certain other words, then suddenly nothing else matters, and people must line up and declare their allegiance or be A Bad Person.  Three, the way the wishes of the victim are being systematically ignored, as if she has no interest in this whatsoever, with the result she and her family are forced to be victims still and again.  That is what really pisses me off.
