Reesa and I will be presenting at Arse Elektronika 2008, a conference on sexuality and technology that takes place in San Francisco this September. This year’s theme is “Do Androids Sleep with Electric Sheep?” and deals with the influence of science fiction (and “social fiction”) on technology and the future. Our paper, “What is the 21st century novel?” will be part of the conference’s Narration track. Not only will we be talking about the history of and (our ideas about) the future of storytelling, but we hope to reveal details of an upcoming Dream Café collaborative project as well.
I attended last year’s Arse Elektronika and had a great time; you can read my notes here.
In other news, Reesa & I will also be attending the upcoming Burning Flipside 2008. We’re returning with our chill camp, Eposia’s Crosstime Saloon. Our address this year is 8 Naughty Avenue. If you happen to be a reader who attends, be sure and stop by to say hi.

Woot! I will see y’all out there. I’m camping with Team Awesomepants this year, and I’ll be Rangering Friday and Saturday.
…and how come Steve won’t be out there, eh? He’ll be missing some awesome drum circles!

What’s your Ranger name? Or for that matter, what we call you out there (unless you go by skwid :).
Steve will be missing some awesome drum circles, but he’ll also be missing some living conditions he really wouldn’t like much, and we’ll be missing his bitching about how uncomfortable he is, not to mention him tossing and turning on the air mattress … But we WOULD like to get him out there someday. Steve’s definition of ‘roughing it’ is staying in a hotel without a hot tub, so it would help if they got that hot tub out there again someday. We’ll probably rent an RV some year and that’ll be what it takes.

Yes, I am Ranger Skwid. I’m Skwid pretty much everywhere, and have been for a very long time.
There are plenty of folks doing the RV thing out there, and it certainly has its advantages…but I’d feel like I was cheating. As to the hot tub, I heard rumors there was going to be one out there again this year. Guess we’ll find out in a couple of days, neh?
Also, I just remembered that I was camped just down the road from Eposia’s last year. I was with NFT…the camp with the big glowy oblong things hanging from tripods?

Skwid@5: Yeah I vaguely remember that camp. I think I passed by it many times, admired the oblong things but never manage to stop in.
